Kindergarten Update

It's been a bust start to the year in Kindergarten art!  Kindergarteners have finished their letter lines paintings, Knuffle Bunny art, and are now working on art with primary and secondary colors.

See some completed letter line paintings below and read last year's post for more info on our process.

For their Knuffle Bunny art, students read the first two books in Mo Willems' acclaimed series.  Students thought about what toys are special to them and drew self-portraits with the toys.  Some students chose to add their drawings to real photographs, just like Mo Willems.  Check out the display in the kindergarten hallway!

Knuffle Bunny, Texture, and Stuffed Animal Prints

KNUFFLE BUNNY!

For this project, students read books from Mo Willems' Knuffle Bunny series.  In the books, Trixie is very attached to her favorite stuffed animal, Knuffle Bunny.  She doesn't go anywhere without her bunny, if she can help it.

Willems has won several awards for his writing and illustration in these books.  Kindergartners talked about how he made the images, discovering they are a combination of drawings and photographs.
Kindergarteners thought about their favorite toys and drew self-portraits with them.  You can see them loudly exclaiming the name of their toy, just like Trixie!  They then attached them to photographs of our school, just like Mo Willems.

Texture Rubbings

After completing their Knuffle Bunny artworks, kindergarten artists began investigating texture.  Students found textures on their shoes and clothes, around the room and outside.

Students then painted stuffed animals to make prints!  Students looked for textures in their prints, and talked about what they looked like.  The class that made these on Halloween saw many ghosts and skeletons!

Don't worry, not stuffed animals were harmed in the making of these artworks.   They have all had a nice, warm bath and are ready to assist with more art!

Knuffle Bunny lesson was inspired by art seen at Liberty Tree Elementary School.
